Angela Bettis

Age: 28. Hometown: Austin, TX. Blood, Sex & Tears: If sex ed was taught with current Angela Bettis movies--she has filled the title roles in last year's NBC retelling of Carrie and this month's dark Sundance pick May--abstinence would seem a much more palatable option. In both films she plays outcasts who make tenuous, oh-so-feeble attempts at romance that end very badly (read: bloodily) for all involved. FRESH CATCH: Bettis looks perfectly at home at HamaSaku, the place to eat sushi when in Westwood, but she actually lives farther East. "My life is in turmoil," she says, having just moved to Hollywood from Burbank. She's happy her twin brother moved across the street, so she can now "yell at him from out my window and he can poke his head out," she laughs. "It's like 'Melrose Place.'" STAGED: Though Bettis has appeared in a few films--most notably as a crazy in Girl, Interrupted--she says she learned the most about acting while onstage: she has appeared in Salome with Al Pacino and in The Crucible with Liam Neeson. But perhaps Bettis really didn't need to learn anything--she seems to have been born an actress. "I was one of those kids in the neighborhood who was like, 'Let's put on a circus!'"
