Ashton Kutcher Goes All the Way

from the Spring issue of Teen Movieline

It's hardly surprising that young, shaggy-haired Ashton Kutcher looks like he's the offspring of some '70s rocker -- he stars as the puka-shelled, bell-bottomed, spacey heartthrob Michael Kelso on the popular sitcom "That '70s Show" and has just come off a high-profile turn as the wandering stoner in Dude, Where's My Car.

Q: There's a scene in Dude where in an attempt to show-up Fabio and his date in the next car, you and Seann William Scott kiss each other.
A: I was inspired by Chris Farley. The first skit he ever did on "SNL" was with Patrick Swayze when they auditioned to be dancers. He was overweight and stripping with the spandex. He went all the way there and that's why it was funny. I picked up from him the idea that if you can't go all the way, it's not going to be as funny as it could be. If you don't put on that Speedo, it's not as funny.

Q: I figured you lost a coin toss, because you sported that Speedo in Dude but Seann William Scott didn't.
A: No. [Laughs] I tried to get Seann to, but he didn't want to do it. To me that's the extra edge that you gotta take to get there.

Q: Where's the wackiest place your headshot is hanging?
A: I don't know. I have one of me and Ron Jeremy floating around out there somewhere.

Q: The '70s porn star?
A: Yeah. And there's a photograph of me and Miss Nude Internet out there somewhere. That happened in Vegas last weekend.

Q: Is your family stoked about what you're doing?
A: They're very supportive. My mom never has enough signed pictures. I'm always sending more.

Q: Do you ever go to chat rooms on the Net and talk to fans?
A: Before Dude came out, I did that incognito for two hours one night. I went to every chatroom I could find and said, "What's my tattoo say?" and people would say, "Dude," and someone else would go, "Dude, what's mine say?" Enough people had seen those lines in the trailer so I started the ball rolling and then I would go to another chat room.

Q: Does it frustrate you that they keep moving the release of Texas Rangers?
A: Well, I feel like I've become a better actor since I've shot the movie so it kind of bums me out because I want to give people the best stuff that I'm doing right now.
