John Wayne, on DVD August 2nd!

Celebrating the legendary grit and spirit of "The Duke," Paramount Home Entertainment and Batjac Productions, the production company founded by John Wayne, present The High and the Mighty and Island in the Sky for the first time on DVD on August 2, 2005. Meticulously restored and remastered to their original glory, the films arrive on DVD as Special Collector's Editions, fully-loaded with bonus materials including insightful commentaries, behind-the-scenes featurettes and rare archival material.

Disaster strikes at the point of no return in 1954's The High and the Mighty, as veteran pilot Dan Roman (Wayne) must confront a crippled plane, terrified passengers and demons from his past. Nominated for five Academy Awards(R) including Best Director (William A. Wellman), and taking home the Oscar(R) for Dimitri Tiomkin's unforgettable musical score, this thrilling forerunner to modern disaster movies boasts a stellar cast including Claire Trevor, Laraine Day, Robert Stack, Jan Sterling, Phil Harris, Robert Newton, as well as Karen Sharpe and Pedro Gonzales-Gonzales who both lend commentary to the DVD. A riveting tale of bravery, hope and survival of the human spirit, Island in the Sky finds former army pilot Dooley (Wayne) and his men stranded in uncharted sub-arctic terrain when he is forced to crash-land his plane. With chances for rescue diminishing every second, tension escalates in the nail-biting adventure from 1953.

Both produced by and starring John Wayne, The High and the Mighty and Island in the Sky launch the first DVD releases under a distribution pact with Paramount Home Entertainment and Batjac Productions. Other beloved but rarely seen classics produced by and starring Wayne, Hondo (1953) and McLintock! (1962), will follow as well as five titles which Wayne produced: Plunder of the Sun, Ring of Fear, Seven Men from Now, Track of the Cat, and Man in the Vault.
