A Dangerous Woman

by Stephen Farber

At first it seems as if Debra Winger's portrayal of a frumpy, socially outcast woman in A Dangerous Woman is the kind of misguided acting stunt that tempts performers who want to demonstrate their versatility. But by the time she comes to her masturbation scene, it becomes clear that she has no intention of extinguishing her sensuality. Winger finally wins us over, and so does the movie, which begins awkwardly but reaches a powerful conclusion.
