Alice by Stephen Farber Woody Allen's Alice is a fragile fable about a wealthy New York matron who re-examines her priorities after consulting a Chinese acupuncturist with magical powers. Allen has the freedom to try every kind of movie, and Alice is in his fanciful, whimsical mode, reminiscent of Zelig, The Purple Rose of Cairo, and his episode of New York Stories. Unlike those appealing trifles, this comedy drags on far too long, but there are moments that tickle the imagination and continue to provoke chuckles days after seeing the film.
