A Room for Romeo Brass

by Stephen Farber

A Room for Romeo Brass is a heartbreakingly truthful rendition of childhood joys and terrors. British director Shane Meadows's autobiographical feature centers on two boys (extraordinary child actors Andrew Shim and Ben Marshall) whose friendship is strained when a young man insinuates himself into their circle. The interloper, brilliantly played by Paddy Considine, seems like a well-meaning goofball at first, but gradually proves to be a dangerously unhinged psychopath.
