Before the Rain

by Stephen Farber

Before the Rain, the first film to dramatize the civil wars in the Balkans, opens our eyes to the tribal hatreds tearing the post-Communist world apart. Macedonian director Milcho Manchevski demonstrates extraordinary visual command in his feature debut. The three interlocking stories each end with shattering images of violence that leave us drained and grieving.
